A brief history

IDF Tank

In order to house a bigger and more efficient American diesel engine (Continental AVDS-1790-2A diesel engine coupled with an Allison CD850-6 transmission), the Sh’ot Kal can be identified by its’ raised rear deck. The inclusion of this engine also made sense as it brought them inline with the M48’s and M60’s being used at the time.

The Sh’ot Kal also saw the inclusion of a new radio system as well as a new turret rotation system and gun stabiliser. The fire control system saw an upgrade and additional armour was added.

This version of the tank, the Gimel, could be identified through the fitment of these additions – Blazer ERA, new FCS, new sights, smoke dischargers covers.
