MiniArt 1/35 AEC Armoured Car Build | WWII British Recon Vehicle

The AEC Armoured Car was one of the heaviest and most powerfully armed armoured cars fielded by the British during the Second World War. Developed in 1941 by the Associated Equipment Company, better known for building London buses, the vehicle essentially mounted the turret and armament of contemporary British tanks onto a large four-wheel armoured chassis.

Early versions carried the same 2-pounder gun found in British cruiser tanks, while later variants were upgraded with the more powerful 6-pounder or even a 75mm gun. This gave the AEC far greater firepower than most armoured cars of the period, leading crews to nickname it the “Heavy Armoured Car.”

AEC Armoured Cars saw service in North Africa, Italy and later in Northwest Europe, often operating with reconnaissance units where their combination of speed, protection and firepower made them extremely effective in supporting scouting formations.

This 1/35 scale kit from MiniArt captures the imposing shape and detail of this unusual British vehicle well, making it an interesting subject for modellers looking to explore some of the less familiar Allied armour of the war.
