Me410 U4 - Airfix 1/72
The Messerschmitt Me 410 Hornisse was Germany’s attempt to redeem the troubled Me 210 programme and restore credibility to the Luftwaffe’s twin-engined heavy fighter concept. Entering service in 1943, the Me 410 combined improved handling, heavier armament and more powerful engines, making it far more effective than its predecessor.
Designed as a multi-role platform, the aircraft served as a Zerstörer heavy fighter, fast bomber, reconnaissance platform and bomber destroyer. Armed with formidable forward-firing cannon — including optional 30mm and even 50mm weapons in specialised variants — the Me 410 proved particularly dangerous to Allied bomber formations before long-range escort fighters shifted the balance in the air war over Europe.
Sleek, purposeful and slightly aggressive in profile, it is an aircraft that lends itself beautifully to modelling, especially in smaller scales where its twin-engine layout still feels substantial without dominating a display shelf.
